THE JAZZPAR PROJECT is arranged annually by DET DANSKE JAZZCENTER exclusive sponsor SKANDINAVISK TOBAKSKOMPAGNI

This recording is the result of an exiting and close collaboration between the American vibraphone player Gary Burton and my steady trio (with Mads Vinding, bass and Alex Riel, drums), which came about thanks to Arnvid Meyer, the leader of the Danish Jazz-center. Arnvid also is the leader of a project called the “Jazz-Par Prize” concerts (a kind of Danish “Jazz-Oscar” – sponsored by Scandinavian Tobacco Comp.). – and as such he suggested that I participate in the 1990 Prize-concerts, and gave me the opportunity to choose whichever international jazz-artist I would like as a “Special Guest” with my trio.

The first name that came into my mind was Gary Burton. – Ever since I heard Gary’s Quartet with Larry Corryell, Steve Swallow, and Bob Moses for the first time back in 1967 in Copenhagen, I’ve been a fan of his music. He is no doubt a pioneer in the fusion of Jazz with Rock, classical and country music. So when he accepted to participate with my trio in the “Jazz-Par” concerts an old dream of mine came true… The recording took place right after the concert tour and the album consists of all the music from our concertprogramme plus 3 tunes added: “In My Heart”, “Choral”, and “Gary”.

It has been a wonderful time working together! – So I would like to thank M.A. Music, Intermusic, Arnvid Meyer, The “Jazz-Par” Commitee, Scandinavian Tobacco Comp., and thanks to everybody involved in making this possible!
